When is the best time to introduce children to music and movement? As soon as possible! Research shows that children need musical stimulation and hands-on experience with music. Generations of our ancestors have known this in their cultures, giving us a heritage full of singing and Playparty games. This manual is geared toward early childhood and primary teachers, but many of the activities are appropriate for older students as well. This manual includes 42 songs and singing games, along with historic notes, teaching tips, questions for discussion and Kentucky Core Content addressed for each activity. A CD of tunes and a DVD of demonstrations for most of the dances accompany the written resource.

American Folk and Modern Dance for Schools is the result of over two decades of teaching dance to students across the United States and abroad. Responding to a lack of materials available to teachers in the public schools, Jennifer Rose developed a manual specifically designed for educators, complete with a CD of music and instructional video. This resource, completed in 2001, has been well received in schools across Kentucky and in other states. Teachers and community leaders have been delighted with its simple explanations and the quality of the video demonstrations. “It’s Dance for Dummies,” one teacher remarked, “Even I can do it now!”

These 24 songs are safe and enjoyable for young and old alike. Divided into Sing-Alongs and Sleepy Songs, this CD is perfect for rambunctious times, bedtime and every time in between. It was released in early 2006, just in time for the 200th birthday of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and also includes childhood favorites like Hole in the Bucket, Hush Little Baby, and The Barnyard Song.
Mwcweb.jpg (20464 bytes) Some of the earliest songs Jennifer remembers learning; from the English ballad Johnny has gone for a Soldier, to Jennifer's own Pine Mountain Lullaby, to the silly Catalina Magdalena and other songs that Jennifer learned from her father and siblings on the long trips to the beach when she was a child.
SOSNweb.JPG (18901 bytes) Something Olde - the best of Jennifer's first recording, Our Songs, now no longer available - and Something New - two Jennifer Rose originals plus several others Jennifer hadn't recorded before.  Selections include Dance of Love, Star of the County Down, and Black Waters
BSKweb1.jpg (19706 bytes) Beyond the Starlit Skies:  Age-old hymns for the new millennium.  Twenty-one traditional hymns, including Bound for the Promised Land, Twilight is Stealing, Be Thou My Vision, and Simple Gifts, sensitively accompanied on guitar or dulcimer, or sung a capella.

The best of the Christmas spirit in song, from Appalachian and ancient Celtic carols to classical favorites, this is Jennifer at her best in both her musical worlds. Selections span five languages and include O, Holy Night; The Cherry Tree Carol; The Coventry Carol; The Holly and the Ivy and Silent Night.
